POPSS SYNDROME

PHYSICIANS' ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY:

To be aware of this condition and think of POPSS syndrome in differential diagnosis of all patients with chronic groin, lower abdominal, or pelvic pain.

To rule out other common and serious conditions before suspecting POPSS syndrome.

To minimize the use of expensive and extensive diagnostic procedures by obtaining thorough medical histories and performing detailed physical exams, using the seven (7) signs described under “Diagnosis.” In several of these patients, we can totally eliminate any work-up, resulting in significant cost savings.

To reassure patients that POPSS syndrome is a real condition and that they can get help with appropriate treatments.

To direct patients to appropriate centers that specialize in this condition.
